Throughout my battle with sensitive skin, I always turn to Simple’s caring products to help me look and feel like myself again. With 50 years of skincare experience, the products contain only the purest ingredients, vitamins and goodness.

The secret to perfect nails...

I’ve never been a fan of naked nails – from a very young age I have experimented with different nail varnishes and salon applications to the point where I feel my hands look slightly odd without!

Just recently I was in Boots when I came across a brand called Sensationail promoting a range of gel based manicure kits. I have always been quite skeptical about such products and their ability to perform to the same standard as the salon equivalent. I had always imagined it to be a tedious, complicated, expensive task that I would most likely make a mess of however the text on pack lured me in...

“Do you love the look of polish, but find it chips within a day or two“? YES!
“Have you ever gotten a manicure and then reached for your keys and ruined it?“ YES!

With the promise of offering me sensationally shiny, sensationally stunning and a sensationally sturdy two week manicure – the product was most definitely sold!

Initially, I was surprised about the amount of items included in the package. Besides a PRO 3060 LED lamp you get a gel cleanser; gel primer, colour gel polish (sugar plum), colour gel polish (taupe tulips), gel base and top coat, one pack of lint free wipes, one double sided nail buffer and one manicure stick.

I am not a nail expert but when reading the step by step guide to application I found the instructions very easy to follow.

1. File and lightly buff the natural nail.
2. Using the lint free wipe, clean nails with gel cleanser.
3. Apply one layer of gel primer to nail and air dry.

1. Apply a thin layer of the gel base and top coat. Avoid skin and cuticle.
2. Cap the nail by running the polish brush along the nail tip. Cure for 30 seconds.
3. Apply a thin layer of the colour gel polish. Avoid skin and cuticle. Cap nail. Cure for 60 seconds. Apply a second layer of colour gel polish. Cure for 60 seconds.

1. Apply a thin layer of the gel base and top coat. Avoid skin and cuticle. Cap nail and cure for 30 seconds.
2. Finish by removing the moisture layer using the gel cleanser and lint free wipes.

Waiting for my nails to dry is potentially my least favourite past time therefore the greatest selling point  about this product for me is that it dries instantly so I no longer have to worry about smudging or getting fluff stuck to my nails within the first half hour of painting them!

I found the brushes were perfectly shaped to neatly work around the shape of my natural nail bed. As you can see from the photographs – I still need to work on the accuracy of this but I did well for my first try!

Overall, I am so impressed with the results of this product. I finally have the answer to long lasting glossy nails that are super quick and simple to do and even simpler to remove...

Removal: Soak – off method:

1. Using the grey side of the buffer, buff and file the surface of the entire nail to break the top coat seal.
2. Soak the nails in acetone for 15 minutes. For faster removal place the acetone in a small glass bowl and set it inside a larger glass bowl that is filled with hot water.
3. Use the manicure stick to gently push the remaining gel polish off the nails.

The gel deluxe starter kit retails at £69.99 which is a fantastic price for 20 complete manicures each lasting for up to 2 weeks.

As well as offering kits – Sensationail also offer just over 60 nail colours to help you build your collection each priced at £12.50 plus a variety of nail essentials and treatments.

Next I will be testing another colour included in my kit called Taupe Tulips – a grey/ beige pastel colour that is perfect to take me through to spring!

If you have used Sensationail products I’d love to hear your opinions in the comment section below!

Take care,

Miracle product: Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream

For the past few years I have been suffering from terribly dry skin all over my body- but most recently this has been most prominent on my face.

I made several trips to the doctors, tried and tested multiple creams; ointments, tablets and made changes to my diet in case food allergens were causing changes to my skin - but nothing seemed to work.

Being a woman, one of the most important things to boost confidence is good skin. I had no self confidence for a long time, some days I felt like I shouldn't leave the house in case people stared at my red, blotchy skin.

In July 2013, after reading numerous reviews about the miracle that is Elizabeth Arden's 8 Hour Cream, I was still skeptical about whether the feedback I was reading was in fact true. Regardless, I traveled to the nearest stockist and purchased the product.

All I can say is that the product is true to its name - I applied the gel like serum onto my face that evening. The cream felt instantly soothing on my skin when applied. The next morning I nearly cried with happiness as my skin felt moisturised and looked radiant again.

The combination of skin soothing ingredients including Petrolatum and vitamin E relieved and moisturised my chapped and cracked skin caused by eczema. It also dramatically reduced the look and feel of roughness and combated abrasions which has prevented skin infections. Not to forget the creams power to de- redden!

If you're like me, please don't keep suffering with your skin and using medical creams from your doctor that don't make a difference - try the 8 hour cream - I promise you won't be disappointed!

The cream now comes in two forms, The Original and Fragrance Free. Whilst I do not mind the smell of the original cream, I understand it has quite a distinct smell that some people would be hesitant about applying to their face.

Both creams are priced at £25 (50ml) from Boots which might seem a lot of money but as you only need a pea sized amount per application you can imagine how long the product can last.

As well as applying the cream to my face, I also find it great for a number of other purposes.

Carrying the product in my bag makes it easy to moisturise dried areas around my nails and cuticles to ensure my hands remain super soft in this cold weather!

I also love to create a dewy finish to my make up by applying a small amount of product under my eyebrows; the most prominent areas of my cheek bones, inner corners of my eyes and a thin layer over my lips to give a glossy effect that compliments any skin tone.

I also find it really useful for those bad hair days when your static or windswept hair needs taming!

On a final note, I would like to thank Elizabeth Arden for creating such a wonderful product and for helping my find my confidence again. I am sure this product will be a staple item for the rest of my life and I am so excited to try out more products from the Elizabeth Arden line starting with the lip protectant.

As always, I love to hear from you. If you're a fan of Elizabeth Arden's 8 hour cream I'd love to hear how you use it too.

Updated skincare routine

Hi guys!

I'm sorry that I haven't posted in a while! I've been so busy with my work for university as well as applying and attending interviews for my placement year starting this summer so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will get something that I will really enjoy!

I just wanted to give you an update on my current skincare routine and how it's working for me. As you probably already know from my make up routine posts, my skin is quite problematic as I have combination skin to each extreme! This makes it so important for me to care equally as much for my dry areas as well as oily or spotty areas of my skin.

I was kindly treated to the Proactive gift set over Christmas which contains a facial scrub, toner, day cream and night cream. After reading about the brand itself I was concerned that it could be too harsh on my skin type and completely dry me out!

Proactiv® Solution is a range of skincare products designed to help clear blemishes and help prevent future breakouts from forming.
The renewing cleanser is a mild, oil-free formula gently cleanses your skin, while tiny exfoliating grains smooth away dead skin cells so they can’t clog pores. Salicylic Acid helps to remove existing impurities, so blemishes fade away after few uses.

I use this product twice a day, morning and evening by pouring a pea sized amount of product onto my palm and massaging an even layer onto pre dampened skin. I then rinse the product off my skin and dry my face with a towel. I have found that you can also use this product as a powerful facemask. I do this by applying the product before I get in the shower, being cautious of sensitive eye areas and leave on until I am ready to get out of the shower. This process unwraps a brand new layer of skin giving a flawless finish.

The revitalising toner helps balance skin tone and lift away old, dead skin cells to reveal the fresh, radiant skin beneath. The toner also removes excess oil while soothing your skin with natural botanical extracts.

I apply this product to my cleansed skin with a cotton ball or pad, morning and night to my blemishes to help prevent breakouts from forming.

The repairing day lotion is specially formulated to keep breakouts under control throughout the day. Salicylic Acid gets to the source of the problem to dry up blemishes and help prevent blackheads and whiteheads from forming.

This product is to be used after the revitalising toner in the morning. It is important to let the product dry and settle into the skin before make-up or other products are applied. I am not the biggest fan of this product as when I reach for a moisturiser I require something that is highly nourishing.  This moisturiser tends to leave my skin feeling tight and causes dryness and peeling.

The repairing night lotion is formulated with Salicylic Acid to help prevent future breakouts while you sleep, plus Retinol to equalise skin tone and reduce the appearance of pore size. Also contains Vitamins D and E which are designed to help alleviate the visible effects of free-radicals caused by sunlight.

I apply this product to my most dry areas before applying my make up, I find that this prevents clumping and irritated areas forming. I also apply this product as a night cream which leaves my skin feeling super soft every morning!

I am a HUGE fan of The Sanctuary's brightening and thermal face masks! I recommend using these twice a week if you have problem skin like mine! To apply these I fully cleanse my skin ensuring that all of my make up is removed then I apply a thin layer of the product all over my skin and relax for 5 minutes whilst the product works its magic! I then remove with a hot cloth and apply Proactive Night Lotion. These face masks are currently on 3 for 2 at Boots if you hurry!

I'm always on the look out for new beauty miracles so please tell me about your skincare routines!

Lots of love Bec xxx
